I highly appreciate that the newsletter is positive without blowing smoke. There’s no negging, there’s no macho BS, there’s no doomsaying about what’s going to happen if you don’t do the program or buy the stuff. But there are also no grandiose claims of instant success for everyone — just steady encouragement to keep working. All of this is truly, genuinely rare in any corner of fitness culture. Plus, knowing that you actually DO read and respond to emails means that we all know that everything you write is sincere.

My RBT journey began when I visited a trainer for an assessment when I turned 50 in 2012. I have always exercised, and was looking for information on how to train more effectively as I age.
The trainer used resistance bands, which I had never seen before. He mentioned RBT, and I ordered a starter set. I have used your bands ever since. I am decidedly stronger, but better yet, I move with less pain (I had an ACL repair in 1985 which hasn’t held me back, but the bands helped me full strengthen and lengthen muscles so that my movement is essentially the same on both sides of my body), and I am leaner. My back doesn’t bother me anymore – I think this is due to better core strength which comes from working with bands!
I look forward to new exercises in your weekly emails. I am really impressed with how accessible you are via email. My husband recently retired, and he is now a member of the Band Gym.
Thanks for all you do to teach us and help us be strong and healthy as we age.
Congrats on 11 years!

Hi Dave,
I am 71 and have found your band gym an excellent resource, both for finding exercises to work on whatever I need at the moment and for motivation. I also love the videos you send out each week that address some new moves, or compile existing exercises into an interesting or innovative workout, or that identify some issue many of us may be dealing with, and then you give us solutions to consider.
Your video presentations are clear and easy to follow. You maintain a focus on using good form through every exercise. Over the year and a half that I have been a member, I find I can consistently trust in the safety and effectiveness of what you are teaching.
14 months ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and I’ve found that exercising with bands has been a boon to my workouts, from both utility and safety aspects. As a recent example, I love the locomotion training from your Nov. 8th email. I’ve started with two black bands and currently do it 4-5 times a week, right after my dynamic stretching warm up. After completing the locomotion segment, my lower back and hips feel great and I know that over time it will help my stability as well.
So Dave, good job and thank you!

Glad I purchased the thunder band set… You are the man!! So glad I joined “The Band Gym” and that you are my coach and if I have a question you answer directly! That is unheard of, most of these so called self proclaimed experts have a foreign base for their customer support and that makes the waters muddy when asking for advice. That’s why I will be a Band Gym member for life 🙂 Thanks Dave and Karen for your devotion and hard work.

Hi Dave
Great workout yesterday to finish off the 6 weeks! Every workout, somewhere near the end, I tell my wife “Dave is trying to kill me again!” but somehow I’m still here.
The camp has really been excellent. I already knew from the BandGym workouts and exercise vault that you had a fantastic range of exercises built up, but having them laid out in a progression as you’ve done over the past 6 weeks has really been valuable.
Both my wife and I have worked with excellent personal trainers in the past and they have also discovered some of the same innovations as you have. But the additional things you’ve brought in are really fantastic. The resistance added to the rotator cuff exercises and the (stealth) incorporation of core stability into every workout are standout features. As is the cardio component. I’ve never had such a boost from resistance training in a gym, with or without a trainer. You should get a medal.
I’m very interested to see what you have lined up for the last three days!
Best wishes,

Dave,
Your Chest Contrast Training Workout is a game changer! Just wanted to tell you how valuable I found it.
I’ve injured my rotator cuff too many times in the past. I’ve made the mistake of trying to go heavier and heavier with my dumbbell loads. The only limit was my inability to buy anything heavier than 45 lbs during the pandemic.
Your workout really opened my eyes (and chest) to a better way. It’s made my weight training more challenging while making it safer at the same time. That’s a real win. Keep the good stuff coming!
Best,

Dave,
A little backstory for you; my wife and I retired to the central highlands of Mexico 3 years ago. Previously, we had lived in Texas for 22 years. When we lived in Texas my wife had a private trainer and I was just a long-distance runner. After moving to Mexico, we retained her private trainer to send us monthly workout programs and videos via youtube. I started working out with her in our little neighborhood gym and kept on running 3-4 days per week. When COVID hit, the neighborhood gym closed. I started looking for body-weight only workouts online. After more exploring I stumbled upon resistance band training videos on youtube. Of course, yours were among those I found. We, luckily, had a couple of bands that we previously had used exclusively for stretching and warming up. After trying several different workout routines, we decided we liked yours the best.
We began using just those two resistance bands and your youtube videos to piece together full-body workouts done on our mirador (rooftop terrace). Not wanting to take a chance with buying off-brand bands here in Mexico we have been waiting patiently for when we can return to the states to visit family. Our intention is to then purchase some of your Quantum bands after which we can sign up for the Band Gym and begin your full program in earnest.
The most important factor in us deciding to follow you is that you’re pretty close to us in age (we’re both 58) and your workouts are designed with folks like us in mind. Mobility is important! We’re very much looking forward to getting started in your full program once we’ve had a chance to buy a wider variety of higher quality bands.
Kind Regards,
Troy & Kelly M

Hi Dave,
The Band Gym has been a game changer for me. I am 35 years old and have had 3 shoulder surgeries from football and baseball with the last one being 15 years ago. I have completed 2 Band Gym training programs and my shoulder has never felt better! I have been to physical therapy countless times over the years. Nothing has worked for my shoulder pain and tightness like the Band Gym. Of course, I have done “bands” before given this is a staple in physical therapy. However, training with You and your bands is on a whole different level. You’re a great coach who is very passionate, motivated, and innovative. You walk me through each workout step by step and provide helpful tips for every exercise. My overall physique, muscle tone, and stability have changed significantly and I feel better and look better. So much that my wife wants to start training with bands! I am a believer because I am getting results. Prior to the Band Gym, I was playing competitive basketball 3X per week and attending fitness classes at my Health Club. No doubt I will continue to get better and stay better with bands by continuing to train with your training programs both new and old while still having fun at the Club. I can’t wait to get back on the hardwood. I know I am bigger, stronger, and faster than I was 3 months ago! Thanks Dave!!!

Coach Dave,
Thanks for checking in. I’ve been meaning to get back to you but I’ve been pretty busy lately. Not too busy to get my workouts (mobilizations, primers, and workouts) in though.
I started watching your videos on YouTube years ago while using bands that my friend supplied me with. Then this March I decided to get serious about routinely working out. I completed your Jump Start Program, at the intermediate level, then transitioned into the last two weeks of the 28 Day Challenge. I was so happy with my results and dedication to achieving better physical health that I then joined your Band Gym for the remainder of the year. The Momentum Builder is definitely taking it to the next level. The best part is knowing that the more I efficiently execute and push myself, the more the results will come. I love feeling muscle groups that I haven’t felt in a very long time.
With as busy as I get, it’s good to know that all I have to do is go to the Band Gym and you’ve got a plan for me. It’s all right there. Your motivation, your experience, and your innovation. With the gains that I’ve made so far, it only reinforces my dedication to continue to learn more and continually reach new heights. Thanks again for reaching out and your coaching. Keep building and stay safe.

Dave,
I have invested in so much equipment from TRX, to a homemade industrial grade pull-up bar, homemade box jump, slam balls, kettlebells, lots of dumbbells, RB with handles, jump ropes, courses with workouts, workout programs, personal coaching, etc…
But none of them compare to your approach on fitness. Everyone talks about how to look better naked, get sexy, beach body, blah blah blah…
Over the years, and after being a gym rat of doing 8-10 Session/week your programs prove that you can still train optimally with minimum days per week.
Thank you for your real options to just get a good workout in without having to spend hours in the gym so we can get back to life.

Hey Dave!
Quick note: some people might say “Dave your emails are killing me. Too many emails. Too often”.
Not me. Keep them coming.
Each email I get from you is a motivational trigger I can use to get off my butt [working from home] and begin new habit formation using my bands [and spin bike, fit ball, bosu, etc.]. With bands being the axel that everything else spins around.
Any ideas you have on ‘integrating’ bands with fit ball & bosu are welcomed.
I LOVE your dedication to your work.
What a great PURPOSE… helping folks like me be their best so I can do more Good in the World.
Freakin’ awesome!

Dave – I just wanted to shoot you a quick note to say “Thank you!”.
In the midst of the chaos and quickly evolving situation with COVID-19, many of my friends are stressing because they are scared to go to their local gyms to workout. This fear has not once entered my mind because of RBT. You have prepared me and so many others for being able to workout wherever we are. I won’t miss a workout due to not being able to go somewhere. This situation has also allowed the opportunity for me to share about you & RBT without falling on deaf ears or being dismissed as a fantastic workout option.
Thank you, Dave, for leading the charge!!

Lately all I have been doing is contrast training, except for 1 or two days a week that I do just strictly a band only metabolic workout. For me and all my incurred injuries over time, at 59 yrs old, it has been a game changer for me!! I can now do things that I thought were done and gone forever. Thanks so much for enlightening me on contrast training.
It’s in my wheelhouse forever now and I have never felt better both physically and mentally. Keep up the good work!! God Bless.

Dave,
The February Challenge has been terrific, and I have just signed up for 12 months of access to The Band Gym.
Thank you SO much for all of your hard work and thoughtful, simple instruction and training.
A game changer for me has been the split squats, which have activated my glutes, helped my knees and even improved my pelvic floor coordination and function! Can’t say enough about that benefit, as a woman over 50!
I had been training with bands on my own before I found you, because I had discovered their usefulness while I was rehabbing a knee. The extra support of a band setup allowed me to complete difficult range of motion exercises while I came back. I did supported pushups, supported squats and shoulder mobilizations, just from fooling around on my own. Your systems and accessories are really taking me far beyond what I had been able to do.
As you know, most people just don’t get how amazing band work is, for low impact strength and flexibility applications. It can be endlessly adapted, and I love that! I’m thrilled to have found you and your body of work. Fantastic job, Dave.
I’m a fan for life!

Hi Dave, I am a new band gym member, but have been training most of my life. I have really valued your teaching videos over recent years and acquired an assortment of your quantum bands. Up to now, I have been using bands in a somewhat supplementary fashion to other training I was doing. Early on, I found your recommendations on horizontal vector work and standing core work as particularly enlightening. I decided to join the band gym to go deeper. As I have gotten older, I have been exploring how to train vigorously in ways that build me up – not tear me down…..and bands definitely seem to have a place in that. I am 65 and fit and very active. I just wanted to share that I am quite impressed with all the information and direction you are providing in the band gym site. The resource is well worth the membership price! Thanks for putting it all together for us!

Hi Dave,
I am doing 5-6 sessions a week with the bands. My 74 year old body is changing and I am looking a lot more youthful. I don’t see any 74 year olds around here that look as good as I do.
Many years ago I was a track cyclist. When I was 46 I had a very bad accident on my track bike and I lost the use of my right arm for 7 months. I severely damaged the brachial plexus. I lost a tremendous amount of muscle in my right arm and shoulder and upper back. I rehabbed myself but was never the same. My bicep was about the diameter of a pencil. Over the years I’ve gained a lot back but never got above about 80%.
Since I got bands I have been concentrating a lot of effort to bring myself back to 100% on my right side. Dave, I am almost there. I have had significant muscle growth in arm, shoulder and upper back and traps. The bands make it easy to reach into hard to work old muscles. My right bicep is nearly as large as my left and I am sure I will equalize my right and left sides.
This is great stuff. A 74 year old CAN gain muscle. My waist is smaller now as well. I am down two pants sizes but am up 3 pounds from my lowest. That can only mean I have gained muscle. BTW, the instructions in the band gym are very helpful.
Cheers.

Dave,
The Band Gym is more than I could have asked for. I’m enjoying the timed workouts instead of the standard reps scheme.
This is very well laid out & it works for me. I am on the 28 Day JumpStart & surprising had pretty good DOMS in my adductors after the leg work.
Thank you for your excellent work!

I’m a 28-Day Challenge grad, now in the middle of my 3rd week of the 28-Day Momentum Builder. I’m happy with my Band Gym membership and have completed the checkboxes. I’m 72 and in reasonably good shape despite an artificial knee implanted 6 months ago. I’m coming off 5 years of Bodylastics/Eternity Warrior tube training, and before that about 5 years with a Total Gym. I have a set of loop bands purchased before I discovered RBT and have supplemented them with purchases of RBT bands and accessories. I plan to completely transition to Quantum over time.
As a veteran home exerciser, I wanted you to know how impressed I am with RBT. I like the versatility of the loop bands, your short instructional videos, well-balanced programs, and opportunities for personal coaching.
Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey Dave,
Just wanted to let you know I’ve been using the band system to rehab a partial shoulder/bi tear from a year ago while trying to lift atlas stones (ridiculous), I’m a 52-year-old chiropractor and need my shoulders to be healthy, I love how I have learned how to move and control my shoulder girdle using the bands, thanks again for all your hard work, if people would put in the time to learn to use the bands properly there’d be a lot more functional people in a lot less pain.
Have a good weekend,

Hey Dave, I am a Band Gym member. As you requested, I absolutely LOVE the Band Gym. I am 54, have been into fitness most of my life but as time has gone on, my joints are tired. I am really trying to pay attention to form, ergonomics, and technique to avoid injury, but time is having its way, so I must change too. A new series MA40 inspired me to tweak my workout regimen for my age and here I am. The way the content (in The Band Gym) is presented is just fine and I have already felt the immense pump in working with bands.
My work is very physical. I am a home improvement guy and have a small handyman shop in Boston, MA area but more importantly, I am a professional drummer in a number of bands and musical combos. I cannot afford to become overly tight or stiff in my joints and working with weights all the time creates a lot of added, non-joint friendly tension. The bands seem to allow a range of both resistance and control during the movements. This creates a more joint-friendly scenario. I worked hard the first three days with you and had a gig last night with NO issues whatsoever. Let’s see how it keeps ongoing. I’ll let you in on more as it unfolds, but I can plainly see RBT is where I need to be able to keep doing the things I want to as I age. After mastering many of the programs (which I will), I may decide to help train other (old) musician friends of mine here in Boston.
Thank you for doing what you do

Hi Dave,
I just wanted to send a quick thank you for your great programs and bands. I have joined the Band Gym and I am finding the programs fantastic. I am a wife and mother of 12 children so I am always working on improving my core strength. Your workouts always incorporate some core work which I have found very beneficial.
I will certainly be recommending your programs to everyone.
Thank you once again

Dave,
I am 2 weeks into the SeniorSTRONG program. Here are my impressions after the second week.
1. The stabilizer band has allowed me to do more squats than I thought I’d be able to do without aggravating my knees, maybe even improving them. The stabilizer bands looked sort of phony to me, but I think they’re great. I would have never thought exercises like that could be so beneficial.
2. I’ve begun to use my core more consciously. In my practice of aikido, I’ve always had a hard time being able to “connect” my upper and lower body, to use my body as a unit as opposed to a disjointed connection of parts. I found training with bands, at least in this SeniorSTRONG program, to have helped me have a better sense of moving/working the body as a unit.
3. It’s been more intense than I thought it would be. I’d like to thank you for presenting a real road to fitness and not some “well, anything is better than nothing”. When I’ve finished a workout, I KNOW I’ve finished a workout. The first week I started “late”, i.e., on a Wednesday instead of a Monday. I did 4 days in a row and started “week two” on a Monday. I needed more recovery time that first week. Week 2 has gone better in that I feel I’m recovering better. I’ve been doing workouts 1 and 2 on consecutive days, then a day off, then 3 and 4 on consecutive days, then 2 days off. (And, I have aikido classes Monday-Thursday) The intensity/recovery issue may be the result of my lightest bands being the red ones.
Thanks,
W. A.

Hi Dave,
I wanted to thank you for all your time, energy, and expertise. I recently joined the Band Gym because I got such great results hardly doing anything. Just 2-3 attachment-free band workouts a week, with some dynamic stabilizer. I would work out in 20/10 and do anywhere from 2 to 10 sets depending on my energy. Over several months, I lost weight, my balance improved, and I felt more athletic. So I thought why not go all in and join the gym. And I’m so glad I did.
As a 61-year-old man, I am focusing on your flexibility program for a few more weeks before moving onto aggressive workouts.
I’ll be in touch as I progress. But again, thank you for all you do.

I’m an avid runner, I’ve run several marathons including the Boston Marathon.
Last year I kept getting injured because I was just running and not strengthening my body enough to handle the load. I found RBT on YouTube and ordered bands and Stabilizers.
The BANDS are fantastic and so portable. BUT The BAND GYM is even better as I can now train with a directed purpose. However, the BEST part of The BAND GYM is having access to DAVE and having him guide you through your training. In the short time I’ve had the bands and especially the Dynamic Stabilizers the long-standing issues I’ve had with my knees, hips and glutes have diminished.
Thank You RBT and Dave, I can’t recommend the Bands, the Band Gym, and Dave any stronger. My only regret is that I had not come across RBT and Dave sooner.

Hi Dave
It would seem others are now starting to see the benefits of bands you’ve been preaching for years. Think I’ve said before, but I’ve got to say it again – you’ve really nailed it with the band gym & the best value is you teach fitness lessons that last a life-time – I’m not a personal trainer, but with the knowledge you’ve armed me with, I’m pretty sure I could get results if I was hired as one! My heart rate is in an athlete range & my metabolic age is way younger than my natural one – around 15 years less, last time I was tested!
Thanks again for all you do, I’m sure you have a bigger impact than you realize, look forward to hearing from you soon

I want to thank you, Dave! For the first time in 15 years, I participated in our school’s staff/student softball game. It’s been a long time since I felt like participating. I actually got two hits which for me is quite an accomplishment, and I was able to run the bases with ease, another accomplishment. I give a lot of credit to the workouts you have designed. I am more athletic now at 56, then when I was in high school. And that’s no exaggeration. My next goal is to train for a half marathon. I’m also enjoying the new cardio shred.

Dave,
Thanks for the swift response. I do all my training with bands. They are perfect for protecting joints, promoting mobility, and fitness. I gave away all my weights a couple of years ago. I’d taken on board your information about injury and damage to the body. In my late 70’s, I find that bands are ideal. I have abandoned the notion of testing my strength with weights, and instead, make full use of the full range I have of your excellent bands.
Your points about timed routines are well taken, but I like sets and reps. I guess it is as simple as that. EG: drop sets; sets to failure with thunder bands: chest presses, squat rows – a great exercise. The sheer variety is remarkable.
Overall, I am feeling good and fit using bands. That is the best test.
The Gym is a great institution. Thanks for all the support.
Kind regards,

I have experienced shoulder issues, pinched nerve in the neck, and knee pain all in the last couple of years. I had stopped going to the gym and was sick of doing only PT exercises. I found you through online searches and loved your message. I watched a ton of the FREE resources you provide, and slowly but surely built strength, stamina, and flexibility using your band exercises and program. I particularly appreciate how responsive you have been by email even before I was a paid member! I am a true believer and appreciate how you continue to provide new material every week. I have a full-fledged “band gym” in my basement, and I can now do overhead exercises I never thought possible again. I am even starting to feel that running might be in my future again! Thanks for all you do!

Hey Dave! I just wanted to share with you how much I love working out with these bands. Today I went hiking up a steep incline and scaled it like a Ram! I’m 53 years old and went through a back fusion 2.5 years ago that left me with radiculopathy. These bands are helping me strengthen my core better than anything I have tried. My overall strength and stamina is remarkable! I appreciate your knowledge and teachings of these bands. Thank you!

Dave is “The Authority” on band training and Dave’s article “Movement Vs Muscle” is spot on.
I am turning 72 this month. I am not as strong as I was in my 50’s but I am stronger than most men 20 years my junior. My balance and flexibility is better than ever. That is because I have moved from almost entirely weight training to Resistance Bands, Yoga and some moderate weight training. Any time I lift weights more than moderately, I feel it in my joints far more than in my muscles and that is not a good thing. I have a variety of resistance band types and brands. I have tried other resistance band training programs. Dave’s bands and his training programs are the best I have found anywhere.

Dave,
Appreciate the opportunity for the sneak peak into the new BAND GYM. Like to formal and layout. Simple to use and find things I was looking for.
I’ve had the pleasure of getting emails from you over the last five years, which got me to purchase a variety of band products that I’ve used and introduced to my sons as well. I’m not a spring chicken (53 yrs old), but have found RBT and the BANDs to be a more conducive way for me to train more dynamically over the years.
I’m an avid runner and just completed my 8th marathon last month so not interested in bulking up. Rather I’ve found the bands enable me to “lift” and strengthen my upper & lower body in a way to keep my posture strong late on long training runs and the marathons.
My two sons run XC in college as well and trying to direct them to use bands as well in addition to their weight & strength conditioning programs at school. For me, I like the simplicity of being able to bring my ‘gym’ equipment with me on the road and workout like I want to wherever I am.
Grateful for all of the details and workouts you’ve provided over the years. I’ve kept many of those emails as a way to go back and check what I’m doing and what other nuggets I may have missed the first time. Great new site and thanks again for making this information and yourself available to me and so many others. Appreciate your availability and more so interest in helping people. Take care and have a good day.
Peace,

Dave, Since beginning resistance band training I have lost 12 pounds and I’m really seeing the difference. For the first time in 25 years, I am under 200 pounds. I have lost a total of 60 pounds and while most of the weight has been lost prior to beginning resistance band training, I am actually SEEING more of a difference since beginning RBT. Thanks again!

Hey Dave,
Just completed my first full-fledged band workout a few minutes ago and it went very well. At 70, I have typical joint issues, but your core stabilization exercises (banded planks) helped my low back, and the hip work (push outs, etc) got those nice and loose. Got a good sweat over 60 minutes and, maybe best of all, I suspect bands are easier on the nervous system. (I can no longer work hard enough with weights to get a good sweat going.)
I’m very pleased with the early progress. I probably will need to have a bone spur in my right shoulder shaved, but with bands, I expect rehab to go better than my previous shoulder surgery.
My only regret is not getting to you sooner.
