I purchased the Total Fitness Package and I must say, I am seriously impressed! Quantum bands are the highest quality I’ve ever used. I’ve been researching how to train around nagging joint injuries, and as a lifetime martial artist/weight trainer (30 plus years) and my career as a Firefighter/Paramedic, I’ve accumulated quite a few. At 42 years of age, I knew that certain exercises had to be replaced or even jettisoned from my routine. I tried other bands (tubular) and they were just “ok.” It wasn’t until I discovered your website that a whole new way of training was a real possibility for me!
I absolutely love band training with Quantum bands, and they’re 80-90% of how I stay strong and mobile. Combined with a few bodyweight and kettlebell movements, I feel better and stronger than I have in years, and I fully believe that band training will be embraced by most people as they age, especially the aging athlete. I really enjoy your videos and I use them often. Like contrast deadlifts and “big boy curls.” The single band overhead press in the scapular plane is a lifesaver, and I can actually do upright rows with bands and they feel AWESOME! The Total Fitness Package is actually quite impressive, and I’ve already got my first workout in. I have a worked out on and off for my whole adult life. I have power blocks, Lifeline Gym bands, kettlebells, and various workout options. Years ago I was a Golds Gym kind of guy, had Olympic weights and power rack at home, etc. But, you know how it is…you get bored, or lose interest, pressed for time, or get older and start to get injured every time you jump back in and start working out. For all those reasons, I was really intrigued when I found some videos of people using the flat loop bands. After researching many options I was most impressed by the fact that you are “all-in” when it comes to bands, as opposed to just offering another one of hundreds of fitness related products, AND, the information you share online is pretty extensive. So, I am really glad I found your site on the web and super pleased with my initial purchase from RBT. Your bands are no joke! Ha, and I was worried that the bands would be too weak in the package I bought and figured I’d have to immediately buy some heavier ones. I’ll be okay with these for a little while!

I wanted to share a little ‘progress report’. I’m the old guy that had a lot of shoulder pain after rotator cuff surgeries on both shoulders (my right shoulder twice). I have gained so much strength and mobility through full-body band workouts, with emphasis on shoulders, when nothing else produced results.
Prior to starting to workout with bands, I used to do a lot of pushups, but ended up having to stop due to shoulder pain. So, after having not done a single push-up in nearly a year, I decided to give them a try after my band workout yesterday. I rapidly and easily cranked out a set of 30 inclined (feet raised higher than head) push-ups without shoulder pain! I only stopped because I didn’t want to over-do it. I know this probably sounds silly, but it was a great metric for me to see the progress I’ve made using bands!

After 5 years of continued pain and “maintenance” exercises for my shoulder, I put my faith in you. You’ve answered all my questions! I have to say that my band workouts have been more effective than I would have thought possible. My full-body routine takes about an hour to complete, every other day.
I’m 60, and play drums in two local bands. I’ve had rotator cuff repair surgeries on both shoulders – my left shoulder back in 2005, and twice on my right shoulder – first in 2012, and again in 2014. Since then, I’ve had so much pain and fatigue in my right shoulder when playing that I was afraid it was going permanently sideline me… The resistance band training I’ve been doing over the past few months have resulted in a remarkable improvement in flexibility and strength. Four-hour gigs, which used to leave me almost unable to lift my right arm, are now easy for me! No other strength training method I tried ever helped nearly as much…
So, thanks again for your efforts to get band training info to the masses – I’m sure you’ve had a positive effect on more folks than you know 🙂

I had bodylastics before Quantum Bands. These bands are much better. Once you get used to not having the handles you realize that you can get a much better workout without stopping to clip handles on and off. You can work out much harder and faster without stopping to transition.
Exactly! Great article, Dave! It’s exactly what I have been preaching to my clients and weight-lifting buddies for years! We have all been there, especially if you are a “meathead”, pushing our bodies from workout to workout and keep adding weight to the bar, but unfortunately it catches up to you eventually, not necessarily at an older age, and when it does it is often too late … RBT system is definitely a way to keep going “hard” and feel those muscles working hard without overloading your joints … I have been using bands for years now, and as a coach and physical therapist I can say that bands have been a very important part of my programs for years, with great results!

Thank you Dave. As a longtime free weight strength trainer, athlete and personal trainer, I have in the last five years experienced the great benefits of specifically designed, program based band training. I am a pretty fit 58-year-old, and a believer now that band training can and does as a singular tool, provide a path to both muscular strength and definition. I have trained just using bands, and they absolutely do provide positive results. Yes, there is sometimes a different feel, or “pump”, than that which one may feel using free weights, especially when going heavy, but band training works. Glad there are passionate, informed professionals like you that provide accurate, depth-based information.
I started bands about 4 years ago. I have recruited at least a dozen friends in Australia who now regularly work out with bands. If I wasn’t working in the coffee industry, I’d be a high school PE teacher, coaching basketball or some sort of football, and WITHOUT DOUBT, my classes would include bands and my players would be training with bands.
So, thank you for what you do. Your videos, emails, blogs, posts etc have revolutionized my exercise regime and my understanding of core-related functional strength.

I now have core and lean muscle strength I didn’t have from well…up until I was 36 years old. My lower back was crap, I had to give up surfing and was in constant pain.
But not anymore! I was back on the board in April for the first time in 5 years and almost every day is pain-free for my back.
I do bands about 5-6 times a week. I should stretch more because it feels so good, but that’s about all I can improve.

I am working through bicep tendonitis. I was going to crossfit with my daughter. I loved the intensity, but my body didn’t so I am back to bands and only some weights. It is feeling much better. Thanks again and I will let you know about the workouts.

Thank you for the quick response. I love the program – I had all your dvd’s about approx. 6 years ago and used them exclusively for about a year and a half and had great results. I was very fit/athletic. Then for variety sake, I did P90X3, Body Beast, TRX, etc. etc. But I always noticed that I had the best results from the bands. Anyway, after losing much of my strength and fitness over the period of several months – I knew I would only use bands from here on. And I feel like it has been an excellent decision. I bought Tom Brady’s book for the fun of it and it’s good it confirms my decision. But for workouts – your programs are the greatest – the best. I appreciate that it is a Mom and Pop shop and you put your best efforts in every day.
BTW, your response is what I thought and it looks like I need to pump up the volume.

Man getting old does suck. My goal was always to stay as strong as possible, unfortunately as you know lifting in the older years can become a chore especially on our joints. At a very young age of 52, I had bilateral knee replacements which lead to several more surgeries due to major complication. 3 year later, several surgeries and 50 lbs heavier, I thought my workout days were over. Then I stumbled upon your site. I saw my chance that just maybe I can do this even though most people with my complications could hardly move, much less exercise. Fast forward 2 years, I think I have just about purchased every one of your programs and now I have joined The Band Gym. It’s great to now have you as my personal coach all the time!! Since starting RBT, I am down 40 lbs with 28 more to go. I may not be able to hit rock bottom on the overhead squat but for me and where I came from, just squatting is awesome. I still have some post pain issues but RBT makes me feel great and I can see progress every week!! I just had x rays taken last month and the replacement looked awesome! RBT is the freaking bomb!! Dave, Thanks for doing what you do, it has been a life-changer for me in so many ways!!!

My son, who is in college, laughed at me when he saw that I was working out with the bands instead of the weights. I tried explaining to him that I could no longer lift those heavy weights at 51 like I could at 31, but he wasn’t convinced. Maybe he just doesn’t like the thought that I can’t lift those heavy weights like I used to.
No matter what I said I couldn’t convince him to give them a try. He does a lot of power lifting and thinks the bands are not for serious weight lifters. This past week we went on a family vacation down to Florida and he didn’t have easy access to a weight room. Out of desperation he agreed to workout with the bands so that he wouldn’t have to take time off from his routine. Fortunately I brought my full set of bands to include the green bands, handles and utility strap. He combined the green and purple bands in his squats since he squats around 280. Overall he was very surprised at what a workout he got from the bands.
After getting home from vacation, he played in a pickup game of basketball and later told me he couldn’t believe how explosive he could move and jump. He said he had hit the rim at mid forearm, which he said he has never done before. He is so convinced that it’s a result from working out with the bands that he wants me to order him the heavier bands for squatting. Since the green bands were not strong enough for him I thought I should get him the next ones up, which are the blue bands. He wants me to get him the blue and grey but I’m thinking the blue might challenge him enough based on the product description.
I thought I would send you a quick update on my progress. I am finishing up week 5 of the 12 week BandStrong program and it’s going very well. I am glad you suggested that I continue on and not repeat the first week. Since then I have been able to complete all of the rounds as required, although not easily, and have made great improvements overall. I was going to ask you about how to handle the sore knees I have experienced over the last year, but the training has improved the strength of my knees that I no longer have the pain.
I have also been tracking my resting heart rate with my Fitbit over the last 7 months. Since starting the RBT training, my resting heart rate has gone down on average by 5 BPM. That’s an unexpected surprise that I’m really happy about as well.
My wife started this week with the “4 Week Band Starter Program” since she doesn’t feel she is ready for the Band Strong Program. I am wondering if I should order the orange bands for her since she struggles a little with the overhead press type exercises with the red.
I am also considering ordering a pair of the green bands for me. The bands I have are certainly enough for me as I go through the BandStrong program, but I thought I could start incorporating the green as I improve over the coming weeks.
My initial concerns going into this program were my joints and excessive soreness and that still has not been an issue.

I’ve been using your bands exclusively for the past 2 years since a major shoulder surgery. At the time I feared lifting days were done. I was 61 years old and just assume that I’d waste away, like most my age do. They were, but your product is, at least for me, way superior to lifting. At that time, the PT was rehabbing it with bands and I decided to use bands for everything as well. I started with tube shaped bands, which were ok, but once I discovered your product, I gave them away.
I’m currently age 63 and workout with your bands 45 minutes every other day. I do sprints on a schwinn airdyne on the alternate days, never miss a workout. Today I look and feel better than I have since my late 30s.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the information and exercises that you have shared with me. I am starting to grow my workout business more now and my new clients are loving the resistance workouts. Many have been in gym situations where all they did was burpees and lift huge amounts of weights. They are enjoying the fact that they are getting a great workout and don’t have the joint issues that go along with 300# squats. Love the workouts myself also. It just amazes me that I can take a big rubber band and work out until I get the same burn that I could barely achieve with a ½ ton of weight on a machine or bar. Thanks again for all the goodies.

I have to tell you that my first week of using the bands has been absolutely amazing. My legs feel totally different and my knees are feeling better already. The dynamic stabilizer band is tough but definitely can feel results from using it. My favorite exercises are the back pedals and shuffle–they feel amazing. For the first time in a long time I believe that I can get fit and strong without worrying about my knees and ankles–that’s saying a lot from a 58-year old who is 50 pounds overweight. Thank you so much for your help in picking the right bands and workout for my current level of fitness and areas of weakness.

As a fan of band training, I just had to send you a shout out about using band exercises for complexes. As you know, barbell complexes are a popular training protocol that provides a combined strength and cardio challenge. They also are very efficient in terms of getting a good workout in a short period of time. The problem for me, and I suspect for a lot of older trainees, is that barbell training can easily lead to low back or shoulder injuries. Power cleans, snatches, bent over rows, upright or shoulder rows, even with just an empty Olympic bar, can create a high risk of injury for a lot of people. Adding load in the lifting phase of a barbell complex also requires dealing with slowing down movements in the eccentric phase to avoid putting undue strain on muscle attachments.
I found that a band complex is an awesome way to get a great workout without the injury risks of a barbell complex. Also, because bands de-load in the eccentric phase, they are a great way to train when I’m feeling sore. And as you know, bands allow me to train explosively (with fast movements) to train for power. I train these for 5-minute intervals (going through the circuit as many times as I can in that 5-minute period, no rest between exercises), resting about 2 minutes, and then repeating or doing another circuit. Here are two circuits I’ve used recently.
Single band, unattached
SLD x 6
Hammer curl x 6
High pull x 6
Front Squat x 6
Press x 6
Pull apart with reverse lunge x 6
Single band attached
Standing Row x 6 each side
Incline press x 6
Halo or overhead band hold with step back x 6

I’m a 55-year-old ex-professional baseball player. I played 8 years for the Cleveland Indians & Minnesota Twins. Since my playing days, I’ve always tried to stay in shape. I have tried many different fitness options, from free weights to workout videos. Most were fine when I was younger, however, I found as I was getting older I was more prone to injury. I would often get hurt using weights and the high-intensity plyometric type training videos. It would limit me from training. I would have to miss workouts while I was injured.
Finally 4 years ago after never being seriously injured I tore the labrum in my left shoulder lifting weights. I haven’t had the surgery yet to repair it. Three months ago I started using your band work out and following the videos from your website. It changed the way I can work out. I was able to strengthen my shoulder by using the bands with assisted movements. Now I can perform many of your exercises with heavy resistance. I have gotten my entire upper body back into shape. I can do push-ups and many shoulder exercises with no pain. Best of all I can throw batting practice to my kids with no pain in my shoulder.
I just had to send you this note to thank you! Your band workouts not only helped my shoulder but gave me an overall fitness level that makes me feel great. Your workouts are fun and challenging. I look forward to going into my basement and working out every day.
