I have traveled to 100’s of high schools and seen 100’s of weight rooms. All coaches, especially at the high school level struggle with low budgets, limited space, and creating training variety to keep athletes motivated.

 

These are the very reasons why I developed the Reactive - FAST - FIT - n - Explosive Training System. I like to think of it as the functional version of BFS. 

 

No Space… NO PROBLEM

 

As a high school athlete I lived on a farm 20 miles from the high school.  Needless to say getting to the weight room was not going to happen.  So I learned how to train on my own.  

 

I ran plowed fields, worked on cutting off hay bales or fence post and did tons of quick burst drill.

 

For some reason I felt I need to really work on my ability to explode off cuts and develop my ability to change direction quickly.  Interestingly I never suffered a lower torso injury and was the fastest kid in a school of 1200 students throughout my high school years. I did not understand why I trained like I did back than until I started training and rehabilitating my physical therapy patients with resistance bands .

 

 Injuries helped Develop FFE

 

Since 1986, I have rehabilitated 1000’s of sports injuries.  All of these athletes had this in common..

  • They demonstrated poor deceleration of their lumbo-pelvic-hip complex
  • 99% trained muscle isolation versus movement based integrated strength
  • They either had limited hip and shoulder mobility or excessive hip and shoulder mobility
  • They lacked upper and lower torso rhythm and integration

As I kept seeing them in the clinic, I kept doing similar drills and retraining exercises. Interestingly, 99% of them were done using the same 2 tools.

 

Bands and Body Weight.   Hmm… Go Figure.

 

Why Bands??

 

See bands train the one thing that no other tool can….Fast Deceleration control or as all the functional Experts would say ..”YOUR BODY’S ABILITY TO LOAD THE SYSTEM”.

 

I won’t bore you with all the biomechanical theories but our body performs NO movement (especially explosive movements) without loading the system first. Which means loading comes before Exploding. What is happening is …. Athletes are not being challenged to get their body to load fast and reactively. Traditional weight training can’t create acceleration on momentum or gravity and simple dot drills done with body weight alone won’t challenge the system enough.

 

The fact is bands speed up our body’s MOMENTUM, accelerating GRAVITY and challenges GROUND REACTION response time to get quicker.

No other tool can do that except elastic resistance.  

 

Why is this important…

 

This functional is exactly what your athletes have to overcome every time they step on the field or court. Their ability to decrease ground reaction time (foot quickness) while effectively and reflexively dealing with momentum from multiple force planes, will allow them to develop incredible change of direction speed as well as amazing acceleration. I call this REAL WORLD SPEED

 

Why not bungee cords or tubes Bungee cords…

 

Jerk your body because they have a solid ending point.

 

Tubes…. Snap and Break

 

Both of these are not pleasant and take their toll on budgets not to mention your athlete’s body.

 

Ok, but why are athletes going to want to train with bands???

It is an incredible compliment to what every  model your present strength training follows.
