The Number 1 Band Exercise for Total Shoulder Development - 5th January 2012

When it comes to hitting the shoulders with 1 band exercise using resistance bands, that has to be high pulls.

Band High pull not only rock the deltoids but when you use bands, you also work on getting the scapula to lock down and stabilize.  Trust me, coming from a physical therapist, that is something, 80% of our population lacks.

How does the scapula get so involved??

Well first of all you have the pull apart at the top that creates big time scapular retraction and downward rotation.

Next you have feet pushing against the outside of the band which in turn engages the glut medius which has a very personal relationship the scapula.  Its call the pel-trunk-cula.   What really keeps this relationship strong is a reactive trunk that stabilizes and communicates messages from the butt to the scapula.

A good trunk communicator provides the total kinetic chain sequencing that creates power from the hips and the shoulders.

Here is how you start to build this amazing relationship using resistance bands.

Start with Band exercise high pulls

  1. Add a hip hinge to the high pull
  2. Now add a step
  3. Now go nuts and do what I call High Pull Jacks

This can be a workout just by itself.   Perform a 20 second set of each progression starting with     # 1.  Take a 10 second rest between sets and a 1 minute blow between rounds…  Repeat this sequence for 5 total rounds
