More Big Green Band Training - 30th December 2011
Attachment FREE Big GREEN Band training is the quickest way to put your body under tension.
Why do heavy band training??
Its well known that strength training and specifically higher level resistance training can:
-
Increases Tendon and Ligament Strength
-
Improves Long Bone Stability
-
Activates the bodys Anti-aging chemicals
-
Accelerates Fat-Burning and lengthens the afterburn
-
Provides a level of self-confidence
Now with that can also come the potential for injury. So what steps do you need to take to avoid this from happening.
1. Make sure you are sweating big time before attempting heavy band training.
2. Make sure you have done 3 or 4 lower resistance warm up sets
3. Keep heavy resistance reps low and sets high with recovery consistent. You are not looking for a metabolic effect but rather increase in recruitment and CNS activation
4. Control deceleration and do not relax on the eccentric phase of the exercise. Slowly perform the eccentric portion
5. Understand you can add an orange or red band to whatever band you are using. Going up to the next band level is not the only way to increase band resistance
6. Use total body or multi-joint movements that require standing stabilization. This way you get a much bigger bang for your buck.
The following video will give you some heavy attachment free resistance band exercise ideas.
Good Luck and Go slow even though fast is probably not an option when it comes to heavy band training

Dave I have used the green bands for power improvements in the lower body and for explosiveness. I also use the green bands with my male athletes and they work great.

Hi Dave,
Something I can try myself but what are your thoughts on using a piece of PVC or dowel for the front squats etc with the heavy bands. Do you think the free bands (without dowel/PVC) work the synergist muscles more or is it pretty much the same?
Also all the best for 2012. Thanks so much for all the great advice you provide.
Cheers
Sean
