Lunge Training with resistance bands - 6th September 2010

Training with Resistance Bands to your advantage

Some people refer to lunges as  impact exercises which means there must be ground impact occurring.  Others refer to any type of split stance exercise as a lunge variation.

Regardless, how you describe it, let me take you through how to perform the following lunge variations using a free band set up.

Split Squat Lunge

Reverse Lunge

Forward Step Lunge

Lunges are a tremendous way to improve sagital and frontal plane deceleration.  Now adding bands you can accelerate momentum which makes a simple lunge a lot more “Real World” because life as well as sport is really all about how you handle momentum at high velocities.

The knees are a joint caught in the middle with no where to hide… what I mean is the hip will dictate how strong the knee joint is.

The quads and hamstrings take their feedback from the hip as well.

    thanks for the question

Essentially everything we do requires lower body to work with upper body thru the trunk.

Just start doing ground based movements for upper torso pushing, pull ing and lower body squat variations with upper body reaching.
